Lignano Pinewood Eco hotel

The form that Luigi Piccinato envisioned back in 1957 represents for us a harmonious, unique solution to the urban setting of the entity. That idea was never implemented, so we decided to revitalize that project, give it a new soul, purpose and look.
Dense pine trees, paths that represent a clean space of movement reminded us of the human brain. The paths for movement symbolize brain neurons. That form and concept of the brain is the main determinant for us in the organization of the forest that completes the space around the hotel. As each region within the human brain represents a space where the brain performs certain functions that it later sends to the body, we also decided to divide the plot into spaces with specific purposes that will be incorporated into the forest. With this, we have defined the spaces intended for all human senses. We enhanced motoric abilities and touch trough wooden climbing frames and open space gyms. Vision trough opening the forest and enhancing space and colour. Sound trough wooden pavilions that enhace bird sounds and asswel can produce new sounds. While the taste and smell can be found within the promenade. We also envisioned an outdoor cinema at the end of the forest.

The forest can be accessed both from the town via the central path. That path represents the contextual connection between the human brain and the rest of the human body. The change we have done to the Via Lignano street is that we gave it a whole new purpose. We reconstructed the midle island so it can be walkable. Also there are little stalls where visitors can expereince the smell and the taste of the region. Dense trees also provide shelter from rain and sun on the promenade, so the promenade itself is convenient for movement. We cross the roundabout using an overpass that connects two parts of the promenade, attractive in appearance but also functional for all groups of citizens, including the most vulnerable, without stairs or obstacles.

The hotel was projected as a inovative and modular entity, which is in a constant communication with the enviroment and nature.

The square was completely renovated, by removing the old massive buildings and changing the function of the entire square. Objects with a lighter form, visually more open and functionally more attractive, were designed, both for guests and for the citizens of Lignano. It is filled with greenery that was largely missing before, the space is much more open and bright now. A cafe and a restaurant have been set up. Areas for staying, walking, resting and relaxing within the urban area. Space for a potential gallery or museum of some kind has also been set up, and the connection with the UNESCO park has also been enhanced.
